Useful Information About Ireland

The Island of Ireland

The island of Ireland is in fact two countries:

  • The Republic of Ireland, an independent nation state in the European Union.
  • Northern Ireland: a territory of the United Kingdom, which is not part of the European Union.

There is no hard border between the 2 countries and you will not need your passport to travel within the island. Cars drive on the left in both countries. You will however need 2 different currencies: EUROS for Ireland and POUNDS for Northern Ireland. Many establishments will take both currencies, but not all.

Our Weather

They say Ireland can experience all 4 seasons in one day. Actually, it can experience all 4 seasons at once. Make sure you always have a raincoat or an umbrella with you. And wearing layers is a good idea as temperatures can vary. Typical temperatures in the Spring and Autumn (Fall) are between 5 and 15 degrees and in Summer from 10 to 20 degrees. But you may get lucky and catch a heatwave when you’re here.

Airports

All our journeys begin in Dublin.

Ireland has 14 international airports, although only 4 of these take flights from outside Europe and the UK: Dublin, Belast, Shannon and Knock.

If you are arriving at one of the other international airports around Ireland, we can help arrange transport to Dublin.

The airport at Carrickfinn in Donegal was voted the 2nd most scenic airport in the world in 2017.

Accommodation

We have a range of accommodation options for our various programs. These include;

  • Homestay with an Irish family.

What Our Students and Teachers Say...

Below is a small selection of the reviews and comments we have received from participating students and teachers. For more reviews, click here.

We arrived at Glenties and stayed with a local family. I liked my family from beginning to end. The activities were very fun and very interesting. It was a pity not to go to the cliffs due to bad weather.

The day with the family was one of the best experiences of my life. The family showed us their sheep and donkey, they took us to the beach and we had dinner in a restaurant.

In conclusion one of the best experiences of my life, highly recommended.

Victor, from Spain

Great Experience!

Julio Sandoval

Best way of improving language skills while spending a good time in Ireland. Perfect for motivating people!!

Pablo Borrega Gallego

Atlantic Way Experience has given my Spanish students the opportunity of knowing real Ireland and learn about Irish culture in a natural and interesting way (playing Gaelic football, dancing traditional Irish music…) All the excursions (Wild Ireland, Glenveagh National Park, Grianan of Aileach, etc.) were so interesting and amazing and host families were lovely and took care of our students as if they were their own children.
The tour was very well organized and Aoife Mc Donnell was aware of every detail. For sure, we´ll come back to Glenties, Donegal next year.

Latest Information Regarding Covid-19

Last Updated: 07/01/2020

Ireland is at Level 5

Covid-19 Update

At Atlantic Way experience the health and safety of our guests, team members and local suppliers is our main priority. We are constantly trying our best to make things more flexible for you and to alleviate any worry of having to make decisions too early.

If you confirm a new booking to Ireland with AWE that at the time of booking does not have quarantine at either end (country of origin and destination), or advice against travel from the local authorities of each country, here is how you are covered if things change:

If up to 14 days before departure, there is advice against travel from the government or a national quarantine introduced at either end, you will be given these three options:

  1.   Travel as originally booked.
  2.   Change to new travel dates – no change fees will apply*^.
  3.   Issue a full refund**.

*We have been negotiating more flexible terms with many of our local suppliers. If there is a less flexible supplier involved in your booking, we will advise  at time of booking for any Tailor-Made Journeys (including Tailor-made Golf & Educational programs) and no later than 72 hours after you confirm your booking for any pre-arranged journeys (Signature Journeys, Authentic Irish Journeys and pre-arranged Golf journeys)

^ You can rebook your trip for any travel date throughout 2021. It does not have to be the same journey you originally booked. If the new trip is of greater value to the original booking, you will have to pay for the difference. If the value is less than your original booking, we will refund you the difference. Please note new travel dates are always subject to availability.

**At AWE we will endeavour to give you the option of a full refund wherever possible. This is completely depended on the cancellation of our local suppliers and we will not be able to refund you if our suppliers do not refund us. As mentioned above, we will advise you of the supplier’s policy depending on your program, either at the time of booking or no later than 72 hours after you confirm your booking.

Should you have any queries or concerns please do not hesitate to contact our team on: +353(0)85 247 1510, +353(0)87 124 5587 or via email enquieries@atlanticwayexperience.com to answer any queries you may have.
