Your Educational Experience

Why choose a Term or a Year in an Irish school?
International students who spend a significant period of time in an English speaking country will improve their fluency and comprehension of the language. They will also benefit from being immersed in a new culture. Students will make lifelong friends and become part of one of our friendly Irish families.
We are based on the beautiful Wild Atlantic Way in Donegal. It is a peaceful, safe environment in one of the most scenic areas of the world.
Also, you will get to take part in many activities including afternoon sports and cultural activities.

Donegal was voted the coolest place to visit in 2017 by National Geographic. Take excursions to some of the most breath-taking sites including Sliabh Liag (the highest sea cliffs in Europe), Glenveagh castle, Narin beach, coastal drives on the Wild Atlantic Way and students will also get to enjoy numerous local attractions.

A Typical Day

* A full timetable will be sent to parents one month before the programme commences.

For Parents

We are a family run business and we know how important your children are to you. We handpick our host Irish families and know the families exceptionally well. Donegal is a remote area made up of small villages which are very safe. This allows our international students to mix easily with Irish students, creating life-long friendships. Our students often return and ask to be placed in the same family. Students will be supervised by the host Irish family and will always be supervised during English classes and afternoon activities. They will also be supervised for excursions. What students need to bring: Some money for weekly shopping or activities with friends, some school uniform, depending on the school- for example- black shoes, normal school resources, warm clothes and clothes for sport. Students will have access to shops for any day to day products they might need. A complete list will be provided to you as soon as registration takes place.

Useful Information About Ireland

The Island of Ireland

The island of Ireland is in fact two countries:

  • The Republic of Ireland, an independent nation state in the European Union.
  • Northern Ireland: a territory of the United Kingdom, which is not part of the European Union.

There is no hard border between the 2 countries and you will not need your passport to travel within the island. Cars drive on the left in both countries. You will however need 2 different currencies: EUROS for Ireland and POUNDS for Northern Ireland. Many establishments will take both currencies, but not all.

Our Weather

They say Ireland can experience all 4 seasons in one day. Actually, it can experience all 4 seasons at once. Make sure you always have a raincoat or an umbrella with you. And wearing layers is a good idea as temperatures can vary. Typical temperatures in the Spring and Autumn (Fall) are between 5 and 15 degrees and in Summer from 10 to 20 degrees. But you may get lucky and catch a heatwave when you’re here.

Airports

All our journeys begin in Dublin.

Ireland has 14 international airports, although only 4 of these take flights from outside Europe and the UK: Dublin, Belast, Shannon and Knock.

If you are arriving at one of the other international airports around Ireland, we can help arrange transport to Dublin.

The airport at Carrickfinn in Donegal was voted the 2nd most scenic airport in the world in 2017.

Accommodation

We have a range of accommodation options for our various programs. These include;

  • Homestay with an Irish family.
  • Camp style dormitory accommodation.
  • Apartments for adult students.
  • Hotel options for adult students.

Useful Information for Students

  • EU Students should bring their EHIC  card.
  • Irish weather in April is 12/13 Degrees and 16-20 Degrees in summer, so pack your clothes accordingly.
  • We can provide a range of alternative excursions, schools may pick the ones they are most interested in.

Benefits

  • Complete immersion in the culture
  • Enjoy a unique opportunity
  • Live with a host family and really learn about the culture
  • More possibility to talk in English if you’re from a non- English speaking country

Ireland is at Level 5

Covid-19 Update

At Atlantic Way experience the health and safety of our guests, team members and local suppliers is our main priority. We are constantly trying our best to make things more flexible for you and to alleviate any worry of having to make decisions too early.

If you confirm a new booking to Ireland with AWE that at the time of booking does not have quarantine at either end (country of origin and destination), or advice against travel from the local authorities of each country, here is how you are covered if things change:

If up to 14 days before departure, there is advice against travel from the government or a national quarantine introduced at either end, you will be given these three options:

  1.   Travel as originally booked.
  2.   Change to new travel dates – no change fees will apply*^.
  3.   Issue a full refund**.

*We have been negotiating more flexible terms with many of our local suppliers. If there is a less flexible supplier involved in your booking, we will advise  at time of booking for any Tailor-Made Journeys (including Tailor-made Golf & Educational programs) and no later than 72 hours after you confirm your booking for any pre-arranged journeys (Signature Journeys, Authentic Irish Journeys and pre-arranged Golf journeys)

^ You can rebook your trip for any travel date throughout 2021. It does not have to be the same journey you originally booked. If the new trip is of greater value to the original booking, you will have to pay for the difference. If the value is less than your original booking, we will refund you the difference. Please note new travel dates are always subject to availability.

**At AWE we will endeavour to give you the option of a full refund wherever possible. This is completely depended on the cancellation of our local suppliers and we will not be able to refund you if our suppliers do not refund us. As mentioned above, we will advise you of the supplier’s policy depending on your program, either at the time of booking or no later than 72 hours after you confirm your booking.

Should you have any queries or concerns please do not hesitate to contact our team on: +353(0)85 247 1510, +353(0)87 124 5587 or via email enquieries@atlanticwayexperience.com to answer any queries you may have.
